Postpartum Care
At NorthPointe Birth Center, we focus on uninterrupted bonding and do not separate you and your baby unless there’s a medical need. Newborn assessments are done with your baby in your arms or within your reach, so you’re always part of the process.
We encourage you to eat, rest, and recover together as a family in your private birth suite. Our team will monitor both you and your baby during this time, making sure you're stable, well-supported, and comfortable. Most families are discharged home from the birth center within 4 to 6 hours after birth, once everyone is doing well.
We’ll see you and your baby together for several follow-up visits during the first few weeks. These appointments focus on your physical healing, emotional well-being, newborn feeding and weight gain, and any questions or concerns that come up as you adjust to life with a new baby.
NorthPointe Birth Center provides all standard newborn screenings and testing in-house, including hearing screening, 24-hour metabolic screening, and congenital heart defect screening.
Your final postpartum appointment is typically around 6 weeks and is focused on your recovery, mental health, family planning, and anything else you want to talk about. Of course, baby is always welcome to come along!
