This individual is responsible for identification, mitigation, and prevention of denials that are based on clinical services. They evaluate clinical denials to determine next steps, conduct appeals as appropriate, such as reviewing medical necessity, respond to authorization concerns, and/or reconcile coverage-related issues.

This position works towards preventing future clinical denials by sharing information about denial root cause to help develop and implement process changes.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification in at least one of the following is required or should be acquired within onw year of being employed in this position: Certified health chart auditor, certified documentation improvement specialist, certified coder, denial management certificate, certified professional auditor, or an equivalent program.

Preferred:

  • Degree in health-related field preferred, but not required
